The "Triad" or "Piedmont Triad" describes the region surrounding the area's three largest cities: Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point.
The U.S. Census Bureau defines the region as ten different counties (Alamance, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Yadkin) forming the Greensboro/ Winston-Salem/ High Point, NC Combined Statistical Area (CSA).
Out of 124 CSAs nationwide, the Triad is the 32nd largest in population. With a population of more than 1.5 million, the Triad is also the third largest CSA in North Carolina.
