House Photos for Real Estate Publications

Tips for taking house photos
  1. Shoot houses in good light (The sun should be over your shoulder, or behind the house).
  2. Leave room for cropping. If the house is two stories, leave room on the sides of the house.
  3. Remove distractions from the pictures (i.e. trash cans, bicycles, etc.).

BEST REPRODUCTON
The higher the resolution, the better the quality. Use the BEST or HIGH setting on your camera.

FORMAT
We want RGB files in one of the following formats: tiff, gifs, jpeg, pxc or eps. Do not crop or tone the pictures; we will do that at the News & Record Imaging Department in order to get the best reproduction.

NAMING
We need your pictures named by the Multiple Listing Service number so we can process them properly. To name the pictures:
Mac: Single click inside of the name of your file, hold the button for a second and highlight. Type the MLS# over the existing name.
PC: Right click and select rename. Type the MLS# over the existing name.

DO NOT SEND BY THE NAME YOU DOWNLOAD FROM YOUR CAMERA SOFTWARE.

COMPRESSION
There are a lot of compression programs on the market today. For a PC or Mac, we suggest Aladdin Dropstuff or Stuffit Deluxe which allows you to create stuffed or zipped files. If you stuff or zip your pictures, it protects the file format of the picture as you send it over the Internet. Then it does not matter what browser you use or what browser we use here at the the News & Record. You can get Aladdin Dropstuff over the Internet (it is shareware). See Helpful Links for the Internet address.

INFORMATION WE NEED
The more information we get, the better job we are able to do. When you send pictures attached to an e-mail, include the following information at the top of your e-mail:

  • Name of the Real Estate Agency.
  • Name of the person e-mailing the pictures.
  • A telephone number for the person sending the e-mail.
  • Name of the product in which the picture is to be published.
  • Name the file the same as the MLS# (address of property if no MLS#).

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO NAME AND E-MAIL YOUR PICTURE

  2. Create a folder on your desktop named News & Record Photos.
