1. Take one folded sheet
of newspaper (4 pages), and with the spine at the top lay out
on flat surface.
2. Fold in each top corner
so they meet in the middle leaving about 2" flaps at the
bottom.
3. Fold the top bottom
flap half its width; then fold again to meet the bottom edge
of the triangle folds (not shown.) This creates a smooth rim
with no raw edges, one half the depth of the original flaps.
4. Flip paper and repeat
step 3.
5. Turn paper over; fold
ends in approximately 4-5" each side as shown. (This determines
the size of the hat.)
6. Fold bottom corners
up into triangles.
7. Turn up bottom and tuck
behind rim fold.
8. You now have what looks
like the end of a house.
9. Fold
top triangle down and tuck into rim.
10. If it looks like this
you are doing fine!
11. Open up from bottom.
12. Place down on flat
surface to form a square.
13. Fold one of the two
triangular corners and tuck into rim.
14. Repeat step 13 with
the other remaining corner.
15. Finish creasing the
inside corners to form a square shape.
16. The hat is now finished
and we hope it will be just the right size!
