Fun
Fourth N&R Pops Concert
The
News & Record has been the sole sponsor of the Pops Concert that
has thrilled concert goers for years. Because of fire laws, the concert
and fireworks display moved from downtown to Jamieson Stadium.
To attract people to the new location, the News & Record has brought
the Platters and the Catalinas in to headline the event.
International Civil Rights Center and Museum
On a cold day in February 1960, four young black men, all students at N.C. A&T State University, broke racial barriers to "sit in" at the Woolworth segregated lunch counter in Greensboro. After Woolworth closed its doors in 1993, two political leaders active in the black community announced plans to raise money buy the property and transform the building into a state-of-the-arts monument to the civil rights movement called the International Civil Rights Center and Museum. The News and Record has pledged $150,000 toward this $15 million effort.
