Frequently Asked Questions about Sports

Say I have a sports trivia disagreement with one of my friends. Can I call you for information?
It depends. If we are not on deadline working on the next day’s paper, we’ll try to help. Otherwise we may ask you to call back at a less busy time or take your name and number and call you later.

Do you publish letters to the editor?
Yes. Sports letters to the editor are printed in a feature called Fans’ Forum. They must meet the following criteria:

  • Be no more than 250 words
  • Involve a topic that other readers would find interesting
  • Be written legibly, coherently and concisely
  • Be written tastefully with no profanity or personal attacks

Why is Ed Hardin’s column so opinionated?
As with most columnists, Ed’s job is to present opinions that inform, entertain, touch and even challenge our readers to think about certain issues, trends and personalities in the world of sports. The opinions in his column are his own, however, and not the official stance of the sports department.

Why don’t you cover all of the high school games on a given day or night?
We’d love to if we could, but there are almost 60 high schools in our coverage area. We don’t have enough reporters, space in the newspaper or time to produce our own stories from every site. However, we do count on representatives of the schools to call us to report on games we were not able to cover ourselves.

What do you consider to be community sports?
Our section will reflect how our readers and residents of the Triad spend their time and money participating in sports activities for competition, personal improvement or pleasure.

What if I want to get a team picture of a youth-league champion in the paper?
Our local community news section, People & Places, handles those pictures. Call Robyn Taylor at 373-7062 for details.
